English Name for Avocado
Avocado has an English name that most people don’t know. Many people just know it has got no English name. Avocado is known as alligator pear. Its tree originated from Mexico south to the regions of Andean. The edible part of an avocado is either yellowish or greenish. An avocado usually differs in size depending on the type of tree it came from. Some are big while others are small.
Avocados were first grown in tropical America and cultivated as seedlings. They are mostly taken in salads and dessert in some other parts of the world. This fruit is very delicious and therefore in Kenya it is mostly used with rice, githeri or some prefer to use it with bread. Avocados are rich in vitamin A, thiamin and riboflavin. The fruit is dicotyledonous having two cotyledons. The outer part of the avocado is not eaten but has a woody texture.
