The popular meal for luos is fish like tilapia and omena accompanied with Ugali. This is because they are mainly settled near water bodies such as lake victoria and rivers nzoia, yala, and nyando. Therefore fish is the most available food.
The most common foods for kikuyus is mukimo and irio. Mukimo is made up of smashed potatoes mixed with green peas. Irio is made up of mashed dry beans, corn and potatoes.
Many people from Luyhas community love Ugali. Ugali is made by constantly mixing maize flour or cornmeal with hot water over heat until it reaches a dough-like consistency. Luyha people prefer a heavier flour made by grinding maize in a mill without removing any nutrients.
mice are a popular delicacy among the Mijikenda community. Commonly known as kadzora, it continues to gain prominence in the region. It is more delicious when roasted and it is loved by many coastal people.
The Maasai heavily depend on cattle for nutrition. The traditional Maasai diet consists of six basic foods: milk, meat, fat, blood, honey, and tree bark.Both fresh and curdled milk are drunk. Fresh milk is drunk in a calabash and is sometimes mixed with fresh cattle blood.
