In many African homes especially in the Central region of Kenya, maize and beans is a very common meal. Many people have been wondering how they should call the meal if by any chance they want to explain to a foreigner whose main language is English.
In this article we will enlighten you about this meal maize by mixing maize and beans and then boiling with water for hours.
According to the English dictionary, Succotash is a mixture of broken corn or kernel mixed with beans. It may include other ingredients like potatoes, tomatoes, beef, pork or even pepper.
The name is a somewhat Anglicized spelling of the Narragansett Indian word “msickquatash,” which referred to a simmering pot of corn to which other ingredients were added.
Many people were amused by the name.
To many, this was a shocker. However, many thought it was wise to stick with their common local names.
