7 Style Rules For Dressing In A Heatwave

It's sweltering outside, you can barely face putting your underwear on, never mind adding another layer of clothing on top of that. But sadly, unless you're one of the lucky few people who is allowed to work from home during a heatwave, you will have to put on clothes to venture out of the door. Here are some tips for you.

1. DRESS APPROPRIATELY

Flimsy tea dresses and strappy vest tops might be all you want to wear in the heat, but it's probably best to keep these to the weekend. If it's perfect for the beach, it's probably not suitable for the office.

2. AVOID DENIM

It may seem cute when you're trying it on in your room, but believe us when we tell you that it will feel like a thick cocoon is smothering your legs under the basking heat of the summer.

3. FORGET TIGHTS

Yes, your legs may look like they haven't seen sun in a year (probably not since the last heatwave), but this is the perfect opportunity for you to get some colour and soak up the vitamin D levels. Plus since tights keep the heat in, your body temperature could rise to dangerous levels, so play it safe, airy and go bare

4. WEAR A UNIFORM

Consider what you spend your money on wisely in the summer and create a capsule wardrobe of good quality crisp, cotton dresses and flat sandals. Adapt to suit your own style of course, but having a classic foundation to build on is immensely helpful when faced with a burgeoning wardrobe on a sweaty, hazy morning.

5. CONSIDER SIZING UP

The last thing you want in the heat is to feel like your clothes are sticking to you, so go up a size and work the relaxed, chic look as you go about your day.

6. WEAR SUNSCREEN

Even if there's some cloud cover, the sun's rays are still present when it's hot out, and will burn you. So do yourself a favour and make a good quality sunscreen the first thing you put on. For facial sunscreen, try one that's lightly tinted so you can forego the foundation.

7. YOU CAN WEAR SHORTS TO THE OFFICE

Only if they're tailored. No hot pants, no denim shorts and no loose shorts that showcase your bum when you bend over. You'll thank us later.
