Do you normally pour away your water after washing your rice? Here are Reasons why you should stop

Rice water simply refers to the white starchy water left after washing or cooking rice. Women have used it for centuries in Asia, China and Japan as a natural beauty treatment for hair. It is believed to be effective in promoting hair growth, strengthening hair, maintaining its shiny black color and improving hair texture.

Some of the reasons why it promotes hair growth is because it contains the following;

 Amino acids: Rice water is rich in amino acids that help to nourish and strengthen hair strands. These are the building blocks of protein, which is essential for hair growth.

The inositol found in rice water can improve blood circulation in the scalp, which can help to promote hair growth.

It has vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B, vitamin E that can be present in diets like vegetables, nuts and seeds as well as vegetable oils. All these are all beneficial for hair health.

Rice water has a high concentration of starch, which can help to coat the hair shaft and protect it from damage. This can reduce hair breakage and promote healthy hair growth.

To prepare rice water, follow the following procedure;

• take 1/2cup of uncooked rice

• rinse thoroughly

• Place rice in a bowl with 2-3cups of water

• leave to soak for 30minutes

• Strain the water into a clean bowl and ready for use

NB; You can as well leave the rice water to ferment for up to 2days before straining. This is because the fermented rice water has high antioxidants, which helps in repair of damaged hair and skin.

After preparing, you can use this water as conditioner by simply washing your hair with shampoo, rinse it with clean water, then pour your rice water onto the hair and massage it as well as the scalp. Leave it for 20minutes then rinse it with warm water

Overall, while there is limited scientific research on the benefits of rice water for hair growth, many people have reported positive results from using it. A natural, inexpensive and easy-to-make home remedy may help to improve hair health and promote hair growth.
