Facts:What you Need to Know About Cracked Heels and How to Care For Them



1.Use of heel balm.

The first way of treating cracked heels is by using a heel balm which contain ingredients to moisturize, soften and exfoliate dead skin.Some of the heel balms may cause minor stinging or irritation which is normal.Severe cases of cracked heels may need a prescription-strength balm to help reduce inflammation and reduce itching.

The skin around cracked heels is often harder and drier than the rest of your skin and it tends to split when you apply pressure.In this case soaking and moisturizing your feed is the best way.The process is as follows

a)Keep your feet in warm water with soap up to 20 minutes.

b)Use a  foot scrubber or pumice stone to remove the hard and thick skin.

c)Gently pat your feet dry.

d)Then apply a heel balm or thick moisturizer on the affected area.

Also apply petroleum jelly on the feet to lock in moisture and put on socks.

2.Liquid bandage

Try to apply liquid bandage to cracks to prevent infections and further cracking.The liquid bandage is a good option for treating deep heel cracks that may bleed.

Apply liquid bandage to clean and dry skin. As the crack heals then coating is forced to the surface of the skin.

3.Honey

Honey acts as natural product for cracked heels,this is because honey has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties which helps to heal and cleanse wounds, and moisturize the skin. You can use it as a foot scrub after a soak or apply it as a foot mask during the night.

4.Coconut oil

It is often used for dry skin.It helps your skin retain moisture. Using oil after soaking your feet would be a good option.Coconut oil with its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties may help your cracked heels if they are prone to bleeding or infections.
