Moustache and Beard Competitions Cancelled

We are absolutely gutted to have to announce that the Braw Beard and Moustache Championships in February 2022 is cancelled.

We have been closely monitoring the ongoing situation, in constant contact with the venue and following government advice.

At the time of writing this, face masks/coverings are still mandatory in indoor entertainment venues in Scotland which includes our event space.

Over the last few months we have been contacting previous competitors and spectators to gauge interest and viability. See the attached images for results and feedback.

With these responses, we cannot risk running the event. People are keen to attend, but very few are keen to compete with wearing masks/coverings/face shields beforehand.

All the styled categories, including freestyle would be near impossible to run and even natural competitors would have their beards affected.

Like you, we are extremely disappointed but we have no other choice. With the current regulations for indoor events, unfortunately we have no other option. As you know, we put our heart and soul into the event. Due to the current infection rates, we can’t see cases dramatically decreasing over winter to remove the mask wearing law in Scotland.

We wouldn't want to produce a beard competition event that wasn't up to the standards of previous years or was in any way less than the usual Braw atmosphere. We’ve considered an outdoor event but February in Scotland isn’t feasible for wind, rain, temperature etc.

The date is secured for Brawl BMC 2023 (February 18th 2023) but tickets will go on sale when restrictions are lifted and clearer guidance is in place.

If the mask law is removed after February 2022, we may look at running Braw BMC later in the year.
