Diseases that you Can Get from Shaving

Razor blades can spread infections such as warts(caused by a virus), folliculitis (caused by a bacteria) or jock itch( fungal infection). Shaving creates microscopic openings in the skin which allow organisms to enter and spread infections.

Although they are usually spread by direct contact, the viruses that cause herpes and hepatitis can also linger on razor blades or in the moist areas between the blades. Barbers usually drop a comb or a razor in a liquid solution to sterilize them, without these you can get a barbers itch.

Bacteria invade the air follicles leading to red bumps and pus pimples that may be itchy. Tinea capitis is a fungal infection of the scalp that can take the shape of a ringworm. At the barber shop,it can spread via poorly sanitized combs or towels. In severe cases it can lead to permanent scarring and hair loss.

Tetanus is a bacterial infection that usually occurs after breaks in the skin. It can be acquired fun unclean rusted instruments.

Make sure the tools are regularly sanitized. Check your skin before visiting the barber. Cancel your appointment if you have any open or raw skin which can increase your risk of developing an infection. Check your barber's skin too, make sure that the barber does not have any open cuts or wounds.
