The shortage of rainfall leading to prolonged drought in the country has continued putting many lives at high risk of death due to starvation and lack of water. Many animals and human beings are now said to be depending on donations by well-wishers or the government for survival.
Wild animals which form the country's pride due to the immense benefits they bring have not been spared by this ravaging drought. Some have been escaping from their habitats in search of food and water. According to a reliable source, two giraffes have died after attempting to cross a barbed wire face in Baraki ward, Lagdera, Garissa county. Locals who spotted the animal Carcasses claimed that the animals might have died while searching for water to quench their thirst.

By judging the photos of the animal's death scene, the area is seen to be very dry with grass having dried, an indicator of how many wild animals are in danger of dying due to lack of water and food.
