Yesterday,DP Rigathi announced that the government has ordered al forests be opened to farmers for farming activity. The second in command spoke yesterday during the funeral of Baringo Deputy governor in Eldama Ravine.
Hours later, several leaders including those from Kenya Kwanza have termed that order as a roadside declaration saying it will water down the environment conservation efforts.
Miguna Miguna on his part says " Rigathi must avoid these kind of roadside declarations. Farming in forests is a very bad idea."
Kakamega Senator today morning wrote on his Facebook page "Am the Senator of Kakamega, home to Kakamega Forest, the only REMAINING, indigenous tropical rain forest out side the Congo of DRC & the Amazon of Brazil.I would find it extremely difficult to disagree with Prof Wangari Mathai"
Others have praised the idea terming it brilliant. Some leaders have quoted the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) tweet on 4th November,2019 that praised Shamba system as a brilliant idea on climate action. Below is the screenshot of the tweet.
