The Department of Agriculture in Nakuru yesterday held an enumerators training at Agricultural Training Center on pesticides use survey. The training included enumerators from Nakuru and Nyandarua counties who will carry out a survey on pesticides use within the two counties.
The training was aimed at creating awareness on proper use of pesticides to farmers to ensure crop safety and food security in the county. Proper use of pesticides will enhance increase in food production, adequate food production as well as quality products for market. The enumerators will also educate farmers on safe use of agrochemicals, mitigating biohazards that come along with improper use of agrochemicals.
The training was led by County Crop Protection Officer, Hannah Oduor and Pest Control Board of Kenya Officer, Peter Otieno. The Directorate of Livestock on Monday issued and installed 3000 liters bulk milk cooling plants in Burgei, Visoi ward.
This is towards the major goals of enhancing milk preservation, food security in the county and boosting farmers economic status. Livestock Production Ag. Director, Virginia Ngunjiri who officiated the activity said that the project will open up job opportunities for the youths in the area to work at the facility.
Ms. Ngunjiri further said that the plant will increase dairy production in the area and the ward at large. Burgei Farmers Cooperative signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the County Government for accountability, security, management and Operationalization of the facility. The exercise will continue tomorrow in Teta, Kuresoi South Sub county.
