Various departments under the Ministry of Environment have been working around the clock to restore the original status of Mau Forest that has for so long been threatened by human activities. At the same time, politicians representing people living around the forest have been expressing divergent views which gave birth to the Mau Forest politics.
Some leaders were at the forefront supporting and rationalizing the evictions that were conducted in this forest during the tenure of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Others viewed the whole thing through a totally different lens and condemned the forceful evictions arguing that the action was the epitome of displacement of people.
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina who is serving his second term in office is synonymous with calling for the conservation of Mau. His involvement with Mau politics has even seen him being dealt with law enforcement officers.
Today, he's making serious allegations. That there are some people planning to transfer the management of Mau to Bomet County. He cautioned them against making the move.
"I see some people day dreaming about the Mau Forest …this is our land and territory…I dare you to transfer its management to Bomet Ndio Mtajua hamjui! Nonsense!" He tweeted.
