The Largest Mammals In Africa

Africa has the lion's share of all the fascinating animals on the planet. The continent enjoys a variety of both wild and domestic animals. Most of the largest wild animals are also found on the African continent. This magical continent is the favorite home of the largest mammals on earth.

1. Giraffe.

The giraffe is the tallest mammal in the world. Its extraordinary neck can be as long as two meters. This gigantic animal has long legs of almost the same size as the neck.

A giraffe can also run very fast reaching speeds of 60 km/hr. The animal towers above all the other land animals and feeds on the leaves and twigs of the tallest trees. Giraffes can live up to 15 years.

2. Elephant.

The elephant is the heaviest mammal on land weighing up to 8000 kg. A trunk is the elephant's most cherished body part. The trunk is used for breathing, drinking water, and holding food. It has huge tusks that are lethal weapons and useful tools when clearing a path and carrying other things.

Other striking features of the elephant are the broad ears that are used to cool off the large beast on hot days.

3. Rhino.

Rhinos are definitely among the largest and strongest animals on the planet. The thick-skinned animal is an herbivore and feeds on versatile vegetation. Rhinos exhibit aggressive behaviors unexpectedly because of their sharp nose and ears.

Rhinos are also big lovers of mud and when they get a chance, they wallow in it for hours. These interesting mammals can live up to 50 years.

4. Buffalo.

The buffalo has for decades been among the most feared animals. It has powerful horns that can destroy any invading enemy. Buffalos can weigh up to 800 kg and have extremely muscular bodies. The mammal is an herbivore and mainly feeds on vegetation. Buffalos tend to live for more than 25 years.
