Why Kenya Has Tiniest Share Of Lake Victoria And The Activities Done Along The Region

"Nam Lolwe" is a Luo term used to refer to Lake Victoria which occupies an area of about 68,800km² across the boundaries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Besides, it is the biggest fresh water lake in the African continent and with various resources boosting fishery industries among other sectors.

This vast water body is the major source of one of the longest and largest rivers in Africa known as River Nile which has its route through Egypt.

Despite improving the living standards of the people living along the lake Victoria region through fishing which is the biggest economic activity done around the Lake, Kenya has only 6% of the lake running across the four counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori with Fishing activities done in all the above mentioned areas. And this size factor is affected by geographical factors as well as partitioning which happened during the colonial era.

In contrast with the other countries, Uganda has a larger share owning 46% of the Lake while Tanzania has the largest portion of 48%.

Nonetheless, the Lake has beautiful sceneries for geographical studies as well as for recreational purposes. If you by any chance you haven't been to any part of the lake Victoria, it's high time you start planning for a vacation so you may get the feeling of exploration.
