Death of wild animals especially zebras along the busy Mombasa highway is reported to be alarming. Almost everyday at least one zebra is killed by vehicles using the section of Mombasa road that passes through Machakos county.

The new move is decreasing the population of zebras in the wild. If the new trend is allowed to continue, tourism sector in Machakos county is going to be affected negatively.

The alarming rate of death of zebras along Mombasa road has caught attention of some concerned people who have reacted differently on social media. Airing their views via Tweeter, some have said that erecting a fence and installing underground passes for the animals will be very effective in minimizing their death.
The relevant authorities led by the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) needs to consider the construction of fences along the stretch of the road. In addition, KWS should also find suitable routes that the Zebras can use to cross the busy Mombasa highway.
