According to CEC Agriculture and Livestock Samuel Yegothe cases have been reported in Kesses where some livestock have lost their lives.
“I want to confirm that we have cases of Anthrax in Megun Ward, Kesses Constituency Uasin Gisu County. We have conducted some tests on the animals that died and we have found out that it's Anthrax.We call on farmers to be very careful while dealing with dead animals, “said the Uasin Gishu CEC in charge of Agriculture and Livestock while speaking to the press.
Yego reiterated that anthrax is a bacterial disease and they have started vaccination in the affected areas to avoid spreading to other parts of the County.
“We will vaccinate all animals from the entire Megun ward we are managing it since we have enough vaccines therefore there should no cause f alarm,” added Yego
He called on farmers to report any case of Antrax promising to help them from immediate effect.
“Any farmer experiencing the same should with immediate effect call veterinary officers for them to conduct a test to determine whether its anthrax or not. This will ensure that the disease does not spread to other places in the County,” he added
He called on parents not to consume dead animals since they are putting themselves at risk of contracting the virus.
Some of the symptoms include trembling, high temperature, difficulty in breathing, convolutions, and collapsing before death.
“Please don’t eat any dead animal but instead call veterinary officers who will advise farmers on how to handle the caucus, since it's bad and should not be consumed,” he added.
