An appeal to rename Karura woodland has acquired energy after the Ministry of Environment and Forestry supported the plans.
While showing up before the National Assembly Committee on Environment on October 5, 2021, government authorities drove by Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, embraced an appeal that tries to have the timberland renamed after the late Prof. Wangari Maathai.
Kamunkuji Member of Parliament, Yusuf Hassan, postponed the appealed to before the authoritative panel.

the MP expressed the move would respect the endeavors of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize victor for her endeavors in moderating the woodland.
In his reaction, Tobiko agreed that the appeal was opportune, taking note of that it was an incredible drive in perceiving the late Maathai.
"The Ministry concurs with the appeal petition to have Karura Forest renamed to pay tribute to Hon. Prof. Wangari Maathai," the CS expressed.
Notwithstanding, Tobiko emphasized that the proposition required further meetings before the cycle is finished.
"To this end, in acknowledgment of sacred and legitimate prerequisites for fair treatment and public interest, there is need for the Ministry to counsel further with bureau and draw in Kenyans in open investment before this should be possible," Tobiko expressed.
In 1998, the late Maathai went against the then government's arrangements to complete property advancement in the woodland by organizing an exhibition.
