Amongst the most successful female Kikuyu artists was arguably Jane Nyambura who embraced "Queen Jane" as her stage name. Queen Jane started off his musical career in 1984 as a back up vocalist for "Mbiri Young Stars" under the band leader Musaimo.
This was before she went on solo, producing hits like "Date Cia Maheni" and "Arume ni Njegeni" which continue to rule the airwaves to date.
What many people do not know is that Queen Jane was related to the late John Michuki who was former MP of Kangema Constituency as well as a no nonsense Cabinet Minister in the Kibaki government.
Queen Jane's mother, Wanja was sister to former Cabinet Minister for Internal Security John Michuki. This thus saw the Michuki to fund the projects of Queen Jane who ended having over 200 tracks
Queen Jane song's were considered as barometers of social mores and moods which presented unvarnished truth about the unequal nature of gender relations in her society, were eloquent as they were honest.
