Joseph is a musician from the Gikuyu Benga tribe in Kenya. In Eastland, Nairobi, he worked as a house boy and a nanny. He received sh.180 each month as his salary. Joesph put his money aside and purchased his first guitar. It was there that he began his recording. His songs were also popular with President Jomo Kenyatta and Moi, and he rose to prominence as a result of her music.
Nyota Ndogo
Her father was an alcoholic and so she dropped out of school class seven. Her mother worked as a fishmonger in the Majengo slums.
Life became challenging, and at the age of 15, she took work as a house girl in the Nyali estate. As a house girl, Nyota was introduced to a producer and her first album was recorded. She received a wide receiver pass, and the rest is history.
Gloria Muliro
To pay her school fees and acquire her final results, she was compelled to work as a house help. She worked as a house help for many years whereby she was able to finish high school. In 2005, she recorded her first song which did very well. Gloria Muliro Foundation is her creation. Gloria is happily married.
Betty Bayo
Betty dropped out of second grade owing to a lack of funds. She eventually worked as a house helper in Kiambu Town for two years. She was able to return to school after saving up her money.
Later Betty recorded her tunes and they received widespread airplay. She is a go-getter and a renowned gospel artist.
Lesson learnt
1. The sky is the limit no matter where you come from.
2. Work ethic is rewarded.
3. Follow your dreams and be a dreamer.
4. Before you achieve your desired job, do whatever work you can.
