Photos:Meet Raila's Sister Who's The First Kenyan Woman to Obtain a PhD in Chemistry-Wenwa Akinyi.

The first vice president of Kenya late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga had four wives, Mary Juma, Gaudencia Adeya, Susan Agik and Betty Adongo who bore him 17 children. Most of Raila's siblings are known to the public while the rest are not.

Today we'll delve more on Wenwa Akinyi Odinga Oranga. She is a daughter to the late Jaramogi's first wife Mary Ajuma who's also Raila's mother. She is a third born in her immediate family after Oburu, and Raila then followed by Beryl, Fred Odima, late Omondi who died as an infant, Osewe and Ruth. Wenwa Akinyi Odinga Oranga was the first Kenyan woman to obtain a PhD in Organic/Natural Products Chemistry from the University of Nairobi(1979-1989), she obtained her MSc in Natural products chemistry and her BSc in Chemistry from the German based Martin Luther University. she served as a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi for 13 years, ambassador between 2009 and 2011, chief chemist at the pyrethrum board of Kenya and is currently a Kenya Consul General a role she assumed in 2009.
