Today, 20th October of the year 2020, Kenya is having its annual celebrations of Mashujaa Day. Kenyans celebrate various heroes and heroines who have worked to make the country a better place. Thomas Joseph Odhiambo is one of the people celebrated on this particular day for the work he did to fight for Kenya’s independence.
He is one of the people that spearheaded the negotiations at Lancaster and one of the key founders Kenya’s first independent party, KANU. He was born in 1930 but passed on in the in the year 1969 aged 38 years.
Very few people know facts about Tom Mboya’s family. He was married to a beautiful lady called Pamela Mboya. Together they had 5 children, 3 sons and two daughters. The daughters’ names are Maureen Odero and Susan Mboya. Susan is the third born in Tom Mboya’s family.
Susan Mboya is married to the former Governor of Nairobi County, Evans Kidero. Doctor Susan Mboya is the former president of Coca Cola Africa Foundation and group director of Eurasia Group. She is also the founder of Zawadi Africa Educational Fund, an NGO that offers scholarships to the less privileged.
Susan Mboya went to Connecticut University where she pursued a degree in Pharmacy. She graduated from there in 1988. She obtained her Masters and PhD from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Her work and other events have seen her get awards both locally and internationally.
Maureen Odero Mboya on the other hand is a High Court judge in Mombasa. Tom Mboya’s daughter from his first marriage is called Alakie-Akinyi Mboya and she is an artist and author.
