Just In: CAK Shuts Down Popular Nairobi Radio Station

The Communication Authority of Kenya has closed a radio station operating in Nairobi.

In a public notice released by the CAK Director-General Ezra Chiloba, the authority has closed Gituamba Fm for operating illegally.

The station which has been operating from a residential building at Tena Estate in Nairobi was operating without a licence, this contravening the Kenya Information nad Communication Act of 1998.

The station Owner Nelson Githinji Ndegwa has been arrested. He will be presented in court where he will face charges of operating a radio station without having a valid licence.

The suspect is being held at Buruburu police station awaiting presentation in court.

The radio has been operating in Nairobi for some time nad its closure marks the beginning of the CAK crackdown on those violating legal procedures in setting radio stations.

The CAK has been up in arms against media stations that are contravening standard operating procedures. Recently they banned Pastor Ng'ang'a from broadcasting live events over grounds of breaching the law.
