Silas Khisa, a form four leaver, spent five years collecting broken radio pieces, old batteries, worn-out cables, homemade pop filters, and later last year he pieced them together to come up with his radio station in his mud house in Lodwar town, Turkana county.
Silas has three employees in his radio station who together with him are presenters in his Jamii radio on a voluntary basis. His radio waves by now stretches to more that 1.5km radius within Lodwar town.
Silas was delighted to have Lauren Nanok from Chams Media interested to know his story. He narrates how he struggles to get the local materials and putting them together to form the simple radio station which now serves the community.
