Nelly Cheboi a US based Kenyan lady received December 12th 2022 bagged a total of 110,000 USD which is approximately ksh 11 million or higher due to currency fluctuation, this was after she was declared the CNN hero of the year 2022 award.

During the CNN hero of the year gala, Cheboi and ten others appeared on the podium as the heroes who were shortlisted through voting. All competitors were awarded ksh 10 million and Nelly got an extra million for being the overall winner.

Nelly was nominated to the list after the noble work she is doing through her company tech lit Africa was noticed. Tech lit Africa deals with setting up computer labs across African primary school using computers from USA and Canada which are donated by citizens and charity organizations.
The tech lit Africa CEO was born in Kabarnet town in Baringo county to a single mother Christina Cheboi who sold groceries (mama mboga) to fend for her and her siblings. After her high school she went to further her studies in the USA and graduated as a software engineer.

As a software engineer she developed passion for technology and thought of a way to share her knowledge with people who grew up as her and that is how she developed Tech lit Africa charity organizations.

The award from CNN is meant to fund noble activities and in order for them to touch hearts of more people. The other heroes in the list were; Carie Broecker, Richard Casper, Nora El-Khouri Spencer and Tyrique Glasgow.
