The number of women anchoring news on tv screens has rapidly grown over the last couple of years in the country. The ratio of men to women on the screen as news anchors or reporters can be about 50:50. Back in the days in Kenya, women weren't anchoring news until Catherine Kasavuli came along and became the first woman to anchor news on television. Now women in Kenya are enjoying what Catherine Kasavuli began.
Who is Catherine Kasavuli?
Catherine was born in the year 1962 and began her career in 1980 at the Voice of Kenya which is now known as KBC. In the year 1985, she transitioned from radio to television at KBC. In the year 1990 when Kenya Television Network was founded, Catherine moved from KBC to join KTN and became the first anchor to go live at the station where she worked for 17 years and left for Citizen TV in the year 2007. At Citizen TV, Catherine worked as an anchor until the year 2015 when she retired from the screens.
Catherine Kasavuli later revived her on screen days by joining KBC Channel 1 as a news anchor in the year 2021.
