Late last week Kenyans were saddened by the passing on of Christian Longomba.Christian had been ailing since 2015 and was in and out of hospital since then. Christian will be remembered alongside his brother Lovy who together formed a perfect music group.
The duo came to public limelight in 2002 after their hit single"Dondosa".Though Dondosa performed well,Longombas most popular song was "Vuta Pumz".Other great songs by the group include; Shika More,Piga makofi and Queen. The brothers excited Kenya's music industry after they re-located to the United States. Lovy is now a Gospel ministee in USA.The musical works of Longombas,Late E-sir and stars like Jua Cali and Nameless build Kenya's urban music.
The late Issah Mmari Wangui popular as "E-sir" is a key figure also in Kenya's modern music. You will remember E-sir for songs such as;Nimefika,Leo ni Leo,Kamata,Moss Moss and Hamunitishi.E-sir and Nameless were very close and together did gigs around the country to popularise urban music which was not popular then.
Both the Longombas and E-sir were raised in Nairobi which gave them the much needed exposure to make it in urban music/hiphop.
Today the Kenyan music industry has grown though it requires more efforts to expand. But for Christian Longomba and the Late E-sir will forever be remembered for their mark.
