Joey Muthengi: From Battling Depression, Suicide and Politicians

Kenyan proclaimed slay queen Joey Muthengi lit the internet yesterday on Jessy's new show 'Jessy Junction' with intriguing details of her life and relationships. Joey is a beauty to behold and a sensation to many, talk of beauty and brains and her name tops the list.

The 35 year old queen and sister to David Muthengi alias Holy Dave says Covid-19 has adversely affected her than she anticipated. She has been in and out of jobs in big Radio and TV stations in Kenya including Channel O, Capital FM and Citizen TV. She is now eyeing acting roles so we might be seeing her soon gracing our TVs. She says she enjoys acting, some of her work was in Changing Times, Tusker Project Fame and some movies on MNET.

She moved to the USA when she was 2 years old and schooled there. She came back and settled in Machakos County, Kenya. She went to collage and studied a double major in Communications and Business Management and graduated with Honors.

She has been her own manager through out her career, when asked to try managing other actors she exclaimed its a difficult task to manage artists and very demanding that she cannot manage neither does she have the energy nor time to do so. Life in the US was tough she at time worked three jobs, life as an immigrant is not easy.

She once cried after a live show on TPF with all her make up and gown, she wanted to quit due to peoples backlash that became too much. The struggle to get that job made her persevere and her trust in God, she even quit twitter for a couple of weeks to focus on her job. Her family was a huge support base for her and kept encouraging and pushing her. She encountered cyber bullying for like six months when she joined Capital FM filling the shoes left by Eve D'Souza on Hits not Home work.

Most of the time she hangs out at her mum's farm in Machakos where she fulfills her love for avocados, they also sell water to their neighbours. She states she is good at speaking Kamba than Swahili. She can speak the Kitui, Makueni and Machakos Kamba languages fluently. Her mum taught her Kamba language while they were still in the US, they would talk about someone in the stores in US because they would not understand unlike Swahili.

She states she is currently super single, having been in some terrible relationships have made her retreat as nobody can take advantage of or hurt her. Her potential Mr. Right and high school sweetheart who was ready to buy a house and settle with her was disappointed when Joey declined his offer so as to be on TV, they parted ways thereafter. He moved to a different country and got married, this hurt Joey so much that she does not take people very seriously. Good news to all single guys searching she is now open to online dating.

Shockingly at the age of 14 she was diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety and was on medication for quite a while. A major contribution that caused the decease is coming back to Kenya, the adjustment was overwhelming. She would run away from school as she felt that was not working for her, she bounced through many schools before she settled down. It got bad at some point that she even wanted to commit suicide, at the end of it all she overcame it and lives to encourage others. The disease does not really leave you one just learns to deal with and manage it, avoiding situations that triggers it. This has made it difficult to find a partner that understands this situation.

Better news is that she is searching for a partner and to make matters even better she has no bare minimum requirement for her prince charming. She just wants a God fearing, caring and driven man, just a simple ordinary man probably from the country sides. She just wants to live on a farm and grow old, horses is an added advantage.

Her character from Changing Times as a gold digger has attracted the old and rich men shooting their shot at her, she claims politicians are notorious and like these female media personalities. When she was on TV they kept on hitting on her be it calls, texts or whatsapp. She denied them due to conflicts of interest. When she was young she dated younger guys than her especially from USIU. She ones dated two guys from the same room, she went in with one guy and found the other guy were roommates.

From the US and back to Kenya this is Joey Muthengi's story.
