Esther Akoth, alias Akothee was recently hospitalized. The self-proclaimed president of single mothers took to her Instagram page and bashed her relatives who she claims accused her of faking the illness. The celebrated artist who is currently recuperating, also called out on Kenyans to stop body shaming her, explaining that what seems like a gain in her weight, is actually a health condition. She further explained the struggle of nursing a nerve injury, "I am swollen due to the struggle with sleepless nights of pain. I am afraid to go to bed because I wake up feeling some numbness in my fingers. This situation is scary for me, “she said.

The singer confirmed to be suffering from a nerve injury, after speculation of what might be ailing her. According to a Nairobi based neurologist, nerve injury is caused by compression of nerves. Those likely to suffer from this condition are persons on prolonged bed rest, obese, diabetic people, expectant mothers and those suffering from thyroid. Maintenance of good posture, exercising the body, cutting on repetitive moves and checking on one’s body weight are among the steps that help in the prevention of this problem.
Before being hospitalized, Akothee had hinted on her physiotherapy sessions which had been caused by a pinched nerve on her neck that was affecting her arm, thus immeasurable pain to her whole body. She explained on Instagram and said, “This hurts so badly, especially at night. I can’t find the correct position to place my neck because my neck feels tired, burnt and overburdened,” There are other celebrities who have suffered and battled nerve injuries. They include Hollywood actor Jennifer Aniston and tennis great, Andre Agassi. Following her hospital admission and consequent recuperation, her fans have since wished for her speedy recovery and good health.
