Kenyans on social media who were touched by a young girl's condition have come together to offer support after learning about her condition and why her mother has been locking her in the house.
A netizen popularly known as Kenda Vin posted in one of the Facebook groups 'Kipsigis Renaissance Network,' announced to the group members the disheartening message that left several people disappointed while others gave different views.
According to Mr. Kenda, the little girl from Kaplong in Bomet County is disabled but her mother has been locking her in the house.
The message as seen by this writer was a request by someone else asking Kenda to share the video on social media. The post gave few clarifications that there's a girl identified as Faith Cherotich who is a person living with a disability at Manyatta Kaplong. It further stated that her mother locks her to go to run her 'business'in Kaplong town.
The video shows a man and a woman entering a dark room and in it was beddings to that Cherotich was laying. They greeted the 16 year-old girl who couldn't respond to them but made incoherent noise. They then uttered, "Asikotoretin Mungu eeh Chero," which loosely translates to, 'God will help you Chero.' These words from the good Samaritan touched many.
The video elicited mixed reactions from other members who reiterated the call to help the girl. While some misconstrued the message blaming the mother for locking and abandoning the girl to do her own 'business' in town, they later learned she has been supportive and persevering.
They said the mother locks her to go and look for food. Many lauded the mother for staying with such a girl for 16 years with no help from anyone. She is a strong mother. May God bless her.
