Upcoming Kikuyu musician Dennis Mburu was reportedly sentenced to years behind bars after being unable to raise 100,000 Kenyan shillings cash bail to secure his freedom.
Dennis Mburu was arrested by the city council officers (kanjo) a few days ago for selling music CDs and USB music just to get something for his family to eat since he is the sole bread winner.
He reportedly had no licence and it's illegal to hawk in Nairobi CBD. Details on why he was fined such a huge amount of cash remain unclear.
His colleagues in the gospel music industry have been asked to come up with a plan to raise the money required to pay the cash bail to secure his freedom so that he can continue taking care of his family.
He is currently being held at Nairobi West Prison near Wilson airport. He is a young family man with a wife and two children.
