Kanumba who Rose from being an unknown actor in the industry that was practically non-existent to become a name that slowly but surely become known throughout East Africa wherever Swahili is spoken, and west Africa as well.

He became a brand ambassador, the face of Tanzania and arguably East African Cinema as well as an ambassador of the Kiswahili language. His handsome features were familiar from posters, Yv soaps, Advertisinment and films acting.

However painful his painful death may be for his legion of fanatic followers, it has brought to light the debate that has been raging on the society networking sites of Africa movies industry, also known as Bongowood.
Steven Kanumba was claimed killed by his girlfriend Elizabeth Michael. He was in love with her for a couple period of time. Kanumba who was 28 years at that time, died in controversial circumstances in his house in Sinza, Dar es salaam.
