How Akothee Was Conned By People Who Posed As Government Officers

The past Recent months have witnessed an increase in cases of online fraud and scams. In the majority of cases, the fraudsters pose as public figures in order to lure their unsuspecting victims. A number of celebrities such as Willis Raburu have warned their fans to be careful of such scammers. The fraudsters, however, appear to have adopted a new method of luring their victims. This time, they are targeting popular people with foundations and companies.

Celebrated Kenyan artist and philanthropist Akothee is among the latest victims of online fraud. The award-winning singer took to her social media pages where she narrated how fraudsters who passed as government officials conned her.

According to the narration, unknown people contacted Akothee and sought for a tender to deliver timbers for the AKothee foundation. The scammers posed as officials from the Kenya Forest. They had anonymously taken the identities of innocent officials who work at the organization.

"Last week we recieved an email claiming to have come from Kenya Firest wanting to donate 6000 ft of Timber to Akothee Foundation. The gentleman by the name Mr Dickson claiming to be the one on the photo calling the company with the cell phone 0789488866, insisted that the timber be delivered with immediate effect," part of Akothee's narration read.

"I have called Mr. Julius Kamau, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), and he has confirmed to me that several people including me have been conned. and the profile picture the guy is using is not his, but an innocent officer," she added.

Akothee warned her followers and other organizations against falling victim to the same con.
