The new Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, was sworn into office this morning at the Supreme Court building by the Chief Justice of Kenya, Martha Koome.

Japhet Koome previously was serving as the National Police Service Training College in Kiganjo where he was the commandant prior to being transfered from Nairobi where he was the Police Commander.
A lot of speculation and rumor has been going about that the new Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome is related to the Chief Justice of Kenya, Martha Koome.
This morning, during the swearing in ceremony held at the Supreme Court building, the new Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome clarified on his relationship with the Chief Justice of Kenya, Martha Koome.
According to the available reliable reports that we have with us from the Supreme Court building, during his speech, Japhet Koome clarified that he is not related in any way to Martha Koome.
He elaborated that Chief Justice Martha Koome is married to a Koome who happens to bear the same name as he does.
