There was heavy drama at the coronation of the speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi in Muranga county after a scuffle occurred. The incident which involved a popular female journalist led to an uproar from her colleagues who protested the ill treatment while threatening to withhold coverage of the event.
According to Kenyans.co.ke digital news media, the female journalist was performing her duties covering the event as various leaders who were part of the delegation were making their way in to the venue. Trouble started when she is alleged to have tried to enter the cultural initiation venue which is said to bar any women from the vicinity when elders noticed and ordered her out.
Culturally women aren't allowed near such events as it is termed as desecration of a holy place. The situation almost turned chaotic until police moved in to calm the irate elders and held her for sometime before returning her camera equipment.
