Being a celebrity comes with a huge responsibility. What you do or say in public can land you in trouble. Well, that’s a lesson that Tanzanian star Maua Sama learned when she was promoting her “Iokote” hit song which was released back in 2018.
The bubbly, petite entertainer opened up about her unforgettable experience in an exclusive interview with us.
“My Kenyan fans don’t know that I was in prison for 10 days. Of course, it happened by accident. I did not know that I was committing something very wrong. It was the time when I was promoting my latest song at that time; it is called ‘Iokote’. I posted a video that wasn’t very appropriate. So they (Tanzanian police) caught me for 10 days. Luckily, I am here now!” she said.
“Iokote”, which is one of the best songs to come out of Tanzania in 2018 propelled Maua Sama to fame. She had previously released a number of songs but this was her breakthrough. The music video was so successful that it currently has over 19 million views on YouTube.
“Maybe the moral of the story is, never give up, just keep praying to God. Stand by your goals. Just keep on fighting. That’s all I can say,” she added.
The singer is now one of the most sought-after in Tanzania. In fact, Sama is among the group of artists helping President Magufuli campaign for his second term. Others include Diamond Platnumz, Harmonize, and Wema Sepetu. She has been performing at his campaigns ahead of the elections. That means she is making big money!
As for what her fans don’t know about her, she surprised us by saying she does all her chores! Unlike other celebrities who hire people to do everything for them, Sama is hands-on. Most of her fans probably do not know this!
