Officiating a move as a TedX speaker, the former BBC journalist reveals her happiness to have gained an opportunity to share her story to encourage anyone in life who has never believed in themselves.
During the talk she revealed her sexual orientation and encouraged everyone else out there to stand for themselves as she she believed that being gay is unique and bold.
She disclosed that it took her years to finally accept and admit her orientation. The media personality has opened up on the challenges of being a gay woman living in Kenya.
Makena reveals that she has faced a lot of criticism and hateful comments online because of her sexual orientation. Even some family members and friends deserted her because of that.
She now has her own movement dubbed bold network that gears into helping everyone speak up and not be afraid of living their truth. She explains that gender identity is an individual's experience and perception of one self.
