The Olympic flame is a symbol of continuity between ancient and modern games. Several months before the Olympic Games, the flame is lit at Olympia, Greece. The flame was lit at the site of the Ancient Olympia in Greece on October 18, 2021 and was passed to the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee the following day. The flame then left for China where the relay continues until the start of the Games.
The Olympic torch relay began its second day on Thursday atop the Great wall, with Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan and Chinese Olympic medallists among those taking turns carrying the flame along a route shortened to three days because of Covid 19.
Actor Jackie Chan talks to the media after taking part in the Torch Relay at the Badaling section of the Great Wall in Yanging district.

Did you know that today, the torch relay starts in Greece. From there, it carries the Olympic flame around the world, and ends at the site of that year's Olympic Games.
