Two years after taking a sabbatical to work on individual projects, Kenya's Sauti Sol music ensemble is preparing to release a new single.
Their long silence has ended, as the pop group released a single titled "Lil Mama" on Friday, November 25.
The guys who met at Upper Hill school years ago have been teasing fans on social media with what seems to be the cover photo of the new single.
"We are thrilled to launch our first official single as a group in over two years!" "Lil Mama will be available on all platforms on Friday," they announced.
According to them, the new bit conveys the group's distinct identity as well as the path on which they are headed.
"Rhumbas of the Future." A sonic assessment that reflects rhumba sounds and the future. It is the core of Sauti Sol, a distinct identity that firmly ties who Sauti Sol is to where we are headed."
They last collaborated on group music in 2020, when they published the album Midnight Train.
Sauti sol announced in 2021 that they will be taking a hiatus to focus on separate projects under the Alone Together moniker.
"Alone Together" is the slogan we created to describe our extraordinary future chapter as brothers. It corresponds to our natural trend of self-growth while remaining a single entity," they stated in 2021.
Despite the band's silence, the members have continued releasing separate projects. They have also been spotted working together to arrange events such as the Sol Fest.
"It's a fantastic journey in which we're self-actualizing as artists who got together to form Sauti Sol by showing our skills and personalities."
They said that 'Alone Together' was the product of deep insights they had as individuals and as a group during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The award-winning band has numerous tracks scheduled for release before the release of their album in 2023. The band states that they are delighted to present a group record after years of working on solo projects, and that this release coincides with their upcoming Sol Fest 2022 show.
