The much-awaited Kisumu National Polytechnic Students’ elections finally ended on 2022-06-24 Friday as the students decided at the ballot that saw the election of Fancy Amondi Okumu as the new KINAPOSA President.
Fancy garnered 1346 votes against Barasa Moses Sirma who garnered a paltry 505 votes and followed by Lameck Ochieng who got 132 votes.
Fancy has now entered history books as the first female Kisumu National Polytechnic Student Associations’ president. Since the formation of the union, only male students have always won that seat however Miss Fancy has now broken the glass ceiling by daring to compete against her male counterparts.
The other student leaders who were elected during that election are Osewe Mackrine (Gender Representative), Asweto Chris (Academic Director), Alvin Opande (Secretary-General), and Joshua Spoti (ICT DR).
The newly elected KINAPOSA officials will now take over from the outgoing leaders like Joseph Mbaka and Sylvester Koyoo immediately after their swearing, which will happen in a week.
As a former student leader from the same institution, I congratulate the new office as I wish them well in their endeavors.
