Three students among four killed in head-on collision involving motorbike and matatu

Three secondary school students among four people killed in head-on collision involving Nissan matatu and motorbike on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident at Kwa Koome, happened along Ruiru-Isiolo road.

Mr Kelvin Mwika was taking Win Gatwiri, Tony Mutwiri and Elsy Mwendwa from Rwarera to Ruiri going back to school when the Nissan matatu hit them down.

The impact of the accident left the four lying unconscious, killing Mr Mwika and one of the students instantly.

The other two passengers nursed serious injuries and lost their lives while receiving medical treatment at Meru Level Five Hospital.

Gatwiri, Mutwiri and Mwika comes from Mumui sub-location and Mwendwa hails from Rei sub location.

Eye witnesses accounts revealed that the matatu driver who was enroute to Isiolo lost control of the matatu, veered off the road and rammed the motorcycle.

Buuri East police commander Joseph Oduor said the four escaped with fractures and knocks on different parts of the body.

He said police were probing why the matatu driver lost control of the vehicle and took the wrong lane.
