KCPE Candidate Gives Birth: Area Director Says She Will Continue To Write Her Exam From The Hospital

Teenage pregnancies still big threat to girls education

In the Tharaka Constituency of Tharaka Nithi County, a candidate taking the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations gave birth.

Early today in the morning at the Marimanti Hospital, the applicant gave birth to her child before beginning the mathematics exam.

The applicant will continue to take her exam from the hospital, according to Area Education Director Salecio Maringe. She is one of the 2,147 candidates in the Tharaka North sub-county taking the KCPE.

The KCPE and KPSEA examinations; which will be taken by more than 2.5 million applicants nationwide began on Monday morning.

On Monday, the opening of test containers and the distribution of materials around the nation were witnessed by education authorities and Cabinet Secretaries in the chilly morning air.

Exams for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) have begun across the nation without incident.

The administration of the exams is being watched over by senior government officials who have been stationed around the nation.
