Lunch programs has always been a challenge in Primary Schools, in a number of schools normally teachers contribute for lunch while students are asked to bring beans and maize for lunch programs.
The government through the Ministry of Education under professor George Magoha has warned school administrators against asking parents to pay more than 25% of the total government subsidy or capitation per student on lunch or boarding fee.
According to Magoha, the current subsidy stands at ksh: 22, 422 to cater for boarding and lunch services. The CS has therefore sent a stern warning against hiking lunch and boarding fees from parents.
The CS who was speaking at an event in Mombasa confirmed that the government released funds to school before the end of the previous financial year to facilitate smooth running of programs.
Magoha said that the government has released a total of 56.6 billion for free secondary school and 17.6 billion shillings for free primary school.
