Inside Baringo Schools Where Learners Dodge Bullets

The insecurity cases in parts of Baringo county has jeopardized peace and harmony in that area. One of the most affected is the education sector where some learners find it hard to attend schools in fear of meeting live bullets. However, some have adapted and can tell the distance from which gunshots are being fired.

Furthermore, these learners can tell if the gunshots are from a G3 gun or an AK 47 one. This shows how the issue of using firearms is much popular with residents of Kerio valley. The fact that even young ones are able to predict the velocity of a bullet, poses future security problem.

The government should therefore enforce order in the region to disarm the locals. Although they practise nomadic lifestyle, but this doesn't guarantee them to poses guns. Hence local leaders should also involved to convince the people of Kerio valley that an armed citizen poses security threat so to surrender the guns and cease fire.
