It has been gain on the side of the parents since the announcement of a directive made by cabinet secretary for education Professor George Magoha concerning school fees reduction. He directed that school fees for boarding secondary schools be reduced further by another ksh 8000 from that of last academic year. This might have been a relief on the side parents who are struggling with tough economic times.
Parents are facing challenges when it comes to raising school fees for their children, following the short time allocated for the academic year 2021. The time has been reduced from the normal period of 39weeks to 30 weeks with very short breaks compared to the previous years.
As parents feel some relief, on the other hand it is pain to schools as they are run out of funds to run the daily activities. Schools are facing challenges of delayed disbursement of funds from the government. Parents have worsened the situation of schools by delaying the payment of fees.Schools are now running in arrears, with suppliers at the necks of school principals. Speaking to KBC TV, the chairman to KESSHA, Indimuli Kahi who is also a principal at Machakos Boys urged the government and parents to join hands in supporting schools.
