The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is charge with the mandate of registering, employing, promoting, disciplining and paying teachers. It is one of the biggest white color job employer in Kenya . Annually the commission creates over ten thousands job opportunity. The commission has a clear employment kit that gives priority to year of graduation and grades. According to the latest report, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will send at least 1,000 practicing P1 teachers to high schools in September this year.
This comes after most principals of secondary schools have previously announced and submitted numerous topic combinations that their schools requires. This came after the TSC was requested to allow teachers with a KCSE mean grade of C (plain) or lower who had earned diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, and degrees from various approved learning institutions to be promoted and deployed. As per to Dr. Macharia, the increase in the number of teachers obtaining higher degrees made the program of automatic promotions unsustainable, so the Commission terminated them on January 9, 2014.“This program was monetarily unsustainable due to the large number of instructors obtaining higher certifications,” Dr. Macharia explained.
