All you Need to Know Before Taking a Degree in Law

In the past years only two universities used to offer law degree in Kenya:Moi University and University of Nairobi.In the recent years more and more universities have started offering the course.About fifteen universities offer law degree private universities included.

The minimum requirements to undertake the course are: a mean of C+ in KCSE and a B grade in Kiswahili/English.The universities that offer the degree are:Uon,Moi,KU, JKUAT,Embu University, Egerton,Kissi University,MKU, Strathmore, Daystar, Riara, Africa Nazarene and Catholic University.

After graduating from law school one joins the Kenya School of Law to undertake a post diploma in law and upon passing the bar exams one is admitted to the bar as an advocate of the high court. You cannot represent a client in the court if you have not admitted to the bar.

There are two categories of law , private law and public law.Private law involves:Oil and gas law, intellectual property law, customary law, family law among others while public law involves criminal law and civil law.One can specialize in one or both with a bachelor's in law but upon graduating a masters degree one can stick to one specialization.
