The institutions of higher learning are experiencing rough time financially, since the university entry grade was lowered to C+. It is believed that this cohort of learners scoring C+ which is minimum university entry, were the ones sponsoring most of these universities, as they joined on private program. Unlike now where they also join on government subsidy.
The financial heat has been felt by University of Nairobi before and now Moi University seems to follow suit. To help the situation, the university based in Eldoret is set to lay off some of its staff. It is indeed unappealing for such to happen when we have a government in place. It seems a serious audit needs to be done to these varsities and establish their minimum and maximum operational capacity, as far as capital expenditure is concerned.
Moi university is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning that exists and needs to flourishing independently rather than languishing in financial woes.
