Maghoha Confirms Dates For Schools Reopening, Blames Media For Misreporting

The Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Maghoha, has come out clearly and addressed the media on when all basic and higher learning institutions shall reopen.

In one of the local television,Prof Maghoha said that schools will reopen in January 2021 and not any other time. He spoke this to members of the press on Wednesday 9, while at Pwani University during his tour of institutions to assess their preparedness.

The CS insisted that the government shall not by any chance change its position on reopening of schools from January 2021. "I will not, and shall not say anything in regard to the reopening of schools in Kenya. The Fourth Estate has continued to religiously write what I have not said," said Maghoha.

The CS also blamed the media over misreporting on schools reopening dates. He said that the media has made him look like someone who did not go to school. He went on adding that the media made him look like a person who flip-flops.

According to Prof Maghoha, the government is working on protocols and measures to curb the spread of Corona virus before the reopening of schools.

The government has already set aside Ksh 1.9 billion which will be used to make new desks to facilitate social distancing in schools.

Proffesor Maghoha said that he has instructed all the 47 County Commissioners to go to Nairobi and take a design of the prototype desk designs that can be replicated at the sub county level.

Though earlier, the CS was quated saying that schools would reopen in November but in phases due to the flattening of the Covid 19 curve in the country. For now, schools remain closed until January 2021.
