It's good news to University students following the act of the Ministry of Education that is under the leadership of Prof. George Magokha announcing that the government has no plans to hike university fees.
This comes barely two months when reports emerged that the government had endorsed the plan to hike the university school fees from ksh16,000 to ksh48,000 for the government sponsored students.
Universities student leaders has greatly opposed the government's move citing that the money government had budgeted for the BBI Report should be used to clear their fee arrears and they had threatened to call a nationwide strike if the government was not going to hear their cries.
Secretary General in the ministry of education Zack Kinuthia speaking in Makueni county yesterday said the government has no plans to raise the university school fees and saying the government will continue paying ksh89,000 to all university government sponsored students. He was on official duty supervising the schools in the planned reopening of schools scheduled on 4th January next year.
In conclusion, these are good news to all the government university sponsored students as the government has nothing to do with hiking the fees. The source of this information is from a local radio station known as Radio Citizen and the news reporter is Mutinda Michael.
