Good News To HELB Students As Ministry Proposed Raising Loan To 200,000

University students may soon start receiving up to two hundred thousand shillings from higher education loan board should a proposal by the ministry of education and the statutory body be passed.

Higher education loan board chief executive officer Charles Ringera has petitioned the parliament to increase the loan to two hundred thousand shillings maximum per year.

Currently, students receive an average of thirty seven thousand shillings annually to pay school fees and cater for their upkeep.

According to a report by one location television channel, higher education loan board is mobilising funds to be able to give bonds worth five billion shillings that will enable students to buy laptops.

Few days ago, higher education loan amendment bill 2021 had proposed that students without national identity cards will list their parents and guardians as co-signatories to apply for loans. This is to ensure that those students joining the university under the age of eighteen years are not locked out.
